Horizontal Paint Line Trolley - Defence-Grade Mechanical Design for EPTEC
Client: EPTEC — Government & Defence Maintenance Contractor Discipline: Mechanical Design · Industrial Engineering · Workflow Optimisation
EPTEC engaged KEVOS® to re-engineer the material handling backbone of their defence-grade paint line. Static equipment, irregular component geometries, and constrained floor space were creating measurable bottlenecks across a workflow where precision finishing and throughput are non-negotiable.
Our response began with a workflow audit — observing how operators, components, and coatings moved through the facility — to translate operational friction into clear design priorities. From there, we progressed through concept sketching and 3D CAD development to deliver a horizontal trolley platform engineered for the realities of defence manufacturing: heavy, awkward loads, aggressive industrial environments, and zero tolerance for finish contamination.
The resulting solution pairs a welded RHS steel chassis (1.5m × 0.6m) with diagonal bracing for torsional rigidity, an open-deck profile to support airflow during coating, and a 200–300kg-rated caster system calibrated for controlled, repeatable travel paths. A suite of modular concept options — rotating platforms, adjustable supports, integrated task lighting, and stackable framing — was developed to future-proof the design across multiple defence programs.
While the program was paused due to client-side budget realignment, EPTEC retained a validated, implementation-ready concept and a clearer view of their own process inefficiencies — assets that remain deployable for future capital cycles.
