Engineering a Pandemic-Era Innovation: The Wink Solutions Currency Sanitiser

Currency Sanitiser Machine Design Support

When COVID-19 transformed physical currency into a perceived vector for transmission, Wink Solutions envisioned a bold response — a machine capable of sanitising both banknotes and coins in real time, ready for deployment across banks, retail counters, and transport hubs. KEVOS® was engaged to translate that vision into a manufacturable, market-ready reality.

The engineering challenge was twofold: paper currency demanded delicate, damage-free handling, while coins required robust thermal and mechanical treatment. Both had to be sanitised thoroughly within a single, compact, public-facing device — and built for scale during a global supply-chain disruption.

Leveraging Autodesk Inventor, our team led full mechanical design, CAD development, and design-for-manufacture (DFM) refinement. We engineered a dual-path system featuring a soft-roller UV feed for notes and a heat-assisted tumbling mechanism for coins, optimised within a streamlined sanitisation chamber. Iterative prototyping cycles allowed us to refine tolerances, geometry, and user interaction — converting concept into a production-ready platform.

The result: a reliable, intuitive, and durable sanitiser engineered for high-traffic environments, with a reduced part count, simplified servicing architecture, and significantly improved manufacturability. The project drew national media attention, including a televised feature with founding partner David Gardner, underscoring both its public relevance and engineering credibility.

This collaboration exemplifies KEVOS®' ability to respond decisively to urgent, real-world challenges — fusing precision engineering, practical prototyping insight, and manufacturing intelligence into solutions that perform.
