The source frames feasibility as a question a reviewer definitely asks, and separately says that two of the three things reviewers want reassurance about are resources and finishing on time. Then it puts the timeline — the document's answer on both counts — in a section headed "Additional information", listed last, and described as a place for references, bibliography, appendices and "any special features".

Both positions are the source's own and it never notices the tension. No reconciliation is available in the supplied material and this page does not supply one — what follows is a matter of how you write, not of who is right.

What to do about the residual section

The practical response is not to renumber the model but to stop treating the fourth section as back matter. The source does not prescribe this; in practice, the difference between a proposal that answers question four and one that gestures at it is how that section is written.

Caution

The one dependency that most often invalidates the rest of the plan

Ethical approval sits in the methods and methodology section as a consideration, and in the fourth section as a set of dates. If those two treatments are not consistent — if the design implies a clearance the schedule gives no time to obtain — the plan is wrong regardless of how carefully the rest of it is built.

The overlap the source builds in and does not explain

There is a second structural feature worth knowing before you draft. The introduction is required to include "a summary of the gap in the literature and the research design" — both of which are then presented in full by the two sections that follow it. The source does not describe this as a deliberate overview-then-detail structure, and gives no guidance on how much detail belongs in each place.

Repetition made explicit in one direction and not the other

The third structure has five sub-items under the first heading and six under the second; three are named — a timetable or project plan, ethical considerations, and a trial table of contents of 1 or 2 pages. The rest are not recoverable from the supplied material and are not reconstructed here.

The three are not contradictory so much as pitched at different levels. The slides describe an argument; the notes describe a document; the guidelines paragraph describes a submission with deliverables attached. A reader can hold all three at once — the argument the slides name has to be carried by the sections the notes name, and the guidelines paragraph adds the artefacts that have to accompany them.

Checking the assembled document

Six checks on a sectioned draft

  • The literature review ends on the contribution. If the last paragraph is a summary of other people's work, the section has not done the thing the source defines it by.
  • The methods section contains at least one sentence connecting the design to the question or aims. Description without that sentence is not an answer to question three.

Print the proposal, keep only the section headings and the first and last sentence of each section, and read what remains.

If that reduced document still states a problem, claims a gap, commits to a design and gives a completion date, the sections are load-bearing. If it reads as four topic areas, the structure is not helping a reviewer find the work being done inside it.

Which of the three structures should I actually use?

The slides' three-part shape is better used as a test of the idea than as a document outline.

Should the timeline really go at the back with the references?

That is where the section model puts it, and the model is what the source supplies.
