In the precision-driven world of manufacturing, the RoboHelix helical coiling machine represents a leap forward in coil production technology. Our team contributed significantly to this project by creating detailed manufacturing drawings that enabled suppliers to construct the machine to exact specifications.

Project Scope and Objectives

The RoboHelix project aimed to design an advanced machine capable of coiling fine wires with tight tolerances. Our primary task was to produce comprehensive manufacturing drawings for each component, ensuring suppliers could fabricate and assemble the machine accurately.

Design Process

Hayel and team used SolidWorks to develop 3D models based on initial design requirements. Through iterative refinement and collaboration with design engineers, they optimised the machine’s components for performance and manufacturability. Parametric modeling techniques allowed us to create adaptable designs, facilitating seamless adjustments during the process.

Manufacturing Drawings

Our manufacturing drawings were the cornerstone of the production phase, providing suppliers with all necessary details, including:

  • Multiple views (front, top, side, isometric) to illustrate part geometry
  • Precise dimensions with tolerances
  • Material and surface finish specifications
  • Notes on manufacturing processes (e.g., welding, machining)

We adhered to ISO 128 standards, ensuring clarity and consistency for global suppliers.

Challenges and Solutions

A key challenge was depicting the complex curvature of the coiling mechanism. Through meticulous calculations, prototype testing, and teamwork with engineers, we refined the design and accurately captured these intricate details in our drawings.
