Work Performance Data

Unmodified observations, metrics, and figures gathered directly during project execution activities.

2 min read 3 sections Execution Phase Monitor & Control

§1 Overview

Work Performance Data captures the raw, unvarnished realities of the project as work is performed.

This data serves as a foundational input for the Monitor and Control Project Work process. It is vital to separate raw metrics (such as the actual dollars spent or the exact number of defects logged) from the analytical interpretation of those metrics. Variance calculations, forecasting (EAC, ETC, VAC), and broader trend analyses do not belong here—they are generated downstream as Work Performance Information (WPI).

Key distinction: This document captures what happened. It does not calculate why it happened or what it means for the final project outcome. Those interpretations occur later and are typically published in a Project Status Report.
